The Genesee Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity was organized in Houghton in 1989. Now, twelve members from around the county serve on the board of directors. Their mission is to provide affordable housing for families. Once families have been selected for a home, they are mentored in various aspects of home ownership and money management. Close to fifty volunteer builders, some working weekly and others occasionally, rehabilitate older homes or build new ones on land that is purchased or given to the organization. Please pray (1) that finances will continue to be adequate for completing one house per year; (2) that land for new homes will be found within Habitat's purchasing limits; (3) that new people from the Houghton area will be interested in serving on the local Board
