The Sheets serve as the first Wesleyan missionaries-in-residence
at Houghton College. Their responsibilities in this capacity are to
interact with students, presenting opportunities to become involved
with missions, mentoring students who show an interest in pursuing
missions as a career, and coordinating student mission teams. Brian
has also developed Global Visioneering, which offers assistance to
local churches that wish to start a missions program or revitalize
an existing one. Please pray for (1) the student mentoring process,
and (2) work with the churches in promoting missions, spiritual
growth, and development.
News:
HOUGHTON MINISTRY
We just held our first official
training session with the Houghton College students who will be
going to Russia with us over Easter Break this year. There are 8
students plus 2 leaders (Wendy will be going this year!) for a total
of 10 on the team. We will be doing a variety of ministries
including the Young Adult Retreat, a day camp at the school behind
the ministry center, a day camp at an orphanage, and a work
project. Pray for the team that they will grow in spiritual
strength and unity and that God will provide for each member as they
raise their support.
This Sunday we will be holding one
of our largest student events of the year, the annual Super Bowl
party. Last year we had over 45 people at our house for this
event. Pray that we will strengthen relationships with students
that we already know and that we will begin some new relationships.
RUSSIA
MINISTRY
Brian returned safely from 2 weeks
of teaching in Russia. The second week of his trip was as fruitful
as the first. God continued to open many doors for ministry
opportunities. It was also a fruitful time in being able to put
more definite plans together for the Houghton trip that will take
place over Easter Break. Attached, as promised, you will find a
picture of the students who attended Brian's class on Pastoral
Theology.
Thank your for your prayers that brought him home safely and made
the trip beneficial for the building and equipping of leaders for
God's Kingdom.
GLOBAL VISIONEERING
A
conference is planned in Corinth, New York at Corinth Wesleyan
Church. This will be an evaluation seminar for the churches current
missions ministry with a seminar on catching a glimpse of God's
vision for the mission's ministry of their church. The conference
will take place March 4-6. Pray for wisdom as Brian leads the
seminars and for the church as they continue to seek God's will for
their mission's ministry.
ON THE
HOME FRONT
Ashley
Ashley completed her first
semester in college. She also
began some new on-campus jobs (for her) in the office of
intercultural relations and in student tutoring.
Brian
II
Brian has been accepted to Southern
Wesleyan University! He is waiting to hear from Bethany Bible
College (which he has already visited) before he makes his final
decision. In the mean time, Brian & Dad will be making a road trip
to SWU (the weekend of Feb. 20) to check out the college.
As an answer to your prayers,
on the collision with the deer, Dad was able to make the repairs on
the car by doing it himself, for under $50!!!
Josiah
Josiah transferred to the public
school in town (Fillmore Central School).
